001 - Hi. Hello

Hi. Hello!

A quick introduction, my name is Kenta Naoi, I like to think of myself as a story teller, but with a wide range of genres that I like to dip my toes into and paint with. I grew up playing sports, but in high school transfered over to theater which soon flooded my doors with new interests including; spoken word poetry, dancing, visual art, film, and photography. These interests all came with a set of flexible philosophies and cultures and the culmination of my love fore these crafts, thinking process, and such eventually turned my eye onto studying how I can communicate with these tools, thus DAI, visual communications major, with an emphasis in new media.

I am a Bay Area native, with family in Japan, and growing up in this diverse, rich, and progressive culture I struggled with the concept of identity, and thus this theme shows up many times through out my work. Community and progressive education are also interets of mine, and I think often on how to improve community engagement to encourage a more collaborative platform in order to build creatively for a better tomorrow. Both of these curiosities align well with my passion for progressive education.

I am inspired by do'er, changers, movers and the shakers of our culture, the people who pursue their passion and get things done. I love people and their stories, I am intrigued by their life, and I love show- casing their thoughts and life styles. I started up a website called, Creators Unlocked, that curates creative individuals into an archive community. This project is currently in the works, and I hope to align my 505 to this.

My peers and community influence me the most. I am sensitive to my environment, so I try hard to surround myself with good people. I also surf the web at least an hour everyday (aha)! I have a small addiction to browsing the web for community work, portfolios, tumblr, flickr, vimeo etc.

The future is full of opportunities and I have a lot of collaborative projects that I am working to execute.  I have always had a problem wanting to do everything, and I understand that I can't and maybe I won't, but it never hurt anyone to try. My main focus is to develop Creators Unlocked as a solid platform, a publication that produces both online through our multi-media content, and through print. I am also working on a clothing brand, and an online boutique with a team. This semester I am also beginning the initial stages of my alternative education program called, Creators University, which we have a few high school teachers who are interested. After graduation I want to take this program out to a few schools in the East Bay, and develop seminars and workshops for the younger generation. I also have few concepts for apps, events, collectives, etc, but all of these ideas and concepts are strung through the common theme of community, a very user/human centered design, that is conscious and progressive in its social consciousness. I am big on entrepreneurship, so I am also looking to serve as an incubator program in the later future, and would love to fill my hunger for start ups by investing and consulting. Through Creators Unlocked and my friend's start up design collective, I hope to work with creative and passionate people, utilize my design skills of craftsmanship and thinking, using my experiences to direct programs and projects from concept to fruition. These are just the surfaces of what I want to do, but these are the general outlooks. I am also working on pursuing my passion for spoken word poetry, and am looking to work on my 'own art' after graduation as well. I am in the works of releasing my first poetry mix tape on February 8th, and afterwards will be traveling to Southern California and New York City to perform, and take Creators Unlocked on the road for a month or two this coming year. As far as my social life, I am sure it will revolve heavily around the people that I work with. I am planning on moving to NYC around 25,26, after working in San Francisco for the next 4 to 5 years, and would love to be married around 30, moving back to the California, but I like to think life as a, 'live by the day, die by the die' kind of thing, so I won't put any pressures on what will happen and what will not, I just have windy road ahead of me, and I'm excited to walk, run, skip, crawl it! There are so many things I want to do, and places I want to go, I can't wait! As Dr. Seuss says, 'Oh the places you'll go!'

These two images represent me. I am goofy, and love my friends. The second is my vision, a world where Creators Unlocked exists.

... I also talk too much, and because I love thinking, I write too much. I know this was supposed to be a short thing, but I got really excited and wrapped in the process. Hope you found it some what interesting, or you just skipped it over. Either way, sounds dandy to me!
